INTRODUCTION

The primary purpose of this booklet is to provide some assistance to those people nominated to carry out the designing, installation and operating of lighting for the stage.

It is also intended to provide insight and understanding for writers, directors, actors, set designers, producers and others; creating an appreciation of the various tasks, processes and problems involved in lighting a stage production.

This Site is divided into three sections -

The Tools section deals with the lamps and equipment generally available to the lighting designer, and explores some of the basic uses.

The Objectives section discusses what it is that you want to achieve with the lighting - By clearly knowing your objectives and aplying the limitations and qualities of the tools at hand, some beginings of a design should become aparent. Its a bit like reverse engineering a vision.

The Process section is simply a list of the things I do to achieve my goal.

Please be aware that references to Health regulations and Electricity relate to parts of Australia - it may well be different in your area of the world.
